Filly & Mare Sprint Preview

This race had been anticipated to be among the more competitive editions of this unique seven-furlong contest for fillies and mares. Yet, veterinary inspections resulted in multiple withdrawals this morning, such as leading runners Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.

As a result, the lineup now appears significantly reduced, but conditioner Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to claim his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners feature Richi along with Splendora, whereas Hope Road, victor in the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is considered the primary threat.

One of the leading European hopes, Arizona Blaze, was scratched on Saturday, but focus stays on Khaadem with rider Frankie Dettori, as they attempt to follow up a recent Grade One win in the Woodford Stakes.

Additional contenders include Bucanero Fuerte and She’s Quality, each holding solid form. The US-trained competitors such as Motorious, Ag Bullet, and Reef Runner present serious challenges, with Ag Bullet having demonstrated Grade One-winning form at Saratoga.
