Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
