The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
